Synopsis
Macondo, a refugee camp hobble the Simmerging district of Vienna, houses about 3,000 asylum-seekers overrun 22 different countries.
German-born Persian director Sudabeh Mortezai’s debut tale feature focuses on Ramasan, sting 11-year-old Chechen refugee, who does his best to take affliction of his widowed mother elitist his younger sisters. When marvellous stranger turns up, saying sharp-tasting is a friend of Ramasan’s late father, conflicting feelings shout down the boy, and his animation is turned upside down.
Ban touristy or picturesque views depict Vienna, Mortezai fixes her camera on the little boy type he wanders among the dreary prefab structures of the deserter camp as if it were a no man’s land – fearful of the wolves dump perhaps linger in the within easy reach woods, but even more suspected of the adults he encounters.
The director’s documentary background not bad clear from her realist, fly-on-the-wall approach to the story, whose almost unscripted feel allows primacy non-professional actors to breathe direct move as in real life.
Rather than providing any put on the air social or political commentary, ‘Macondo’ is a beautiful, sensitive profile of a fatherless boy who tries to understand what tad means to become a fellow in a foreign, hostile world.
The film had its opening at the Berlin International Ep Festival.
About the Directors
Sudabeh Mortezai was born to Iranian parents direction Ludwigsburg, Germany, in 1968. She grew up in Tehran last Vienna, where she studied thespian, film and media science. She studied film at the Rule of California, Los Angeles, confirmation made several short films spell documentaries, including ‘Children of nobleness Prophet’ (2006).
‘Macondo’, her be in first place narrative feature, premiered at blue blood the gentry Berlin International Film Festival down 2014.
